This region also has archaeological remains of the oldest cultures ever found in the Pacific Coast of South America. Its natural history is also unique, especially the protected coastal tropical dry forests, in Machalilla National Park. There is possible to observe the same bird life found on the Galapagos Islands. And if your visit takes place between July and November, you will even see great humpback whales, migrating from Antarctica.

Itinerary 6 days/ 5 nights

Day 1: Arrival at Guayaquil/ city tour

Transfer to the hotel.
Today you will visit the city of Guayaquil, consider one of the most important ports in the Pacific Coast of South America.  Walk around the riverfront “Malecon 2000” where you can admire Guayas River and find stores, restaurants, museums, botanic gardens and monuments. Visit the traditional neighborhood “Las Peñas”, climb up leading to the top of Santa Ana Hill to have a spectacular view of Guayaquil.

After Lunch you will visit the Natural historic Park of Guayaquil, a place where it is possible to admire local flora and fauna like Caymans, Iguanas, Eagles and a beautiful segment of mangrove forest. On the cultural side, visit a replica of a late nineteenth century neighborhood and an area that allows visiting a typical hacienda discover the coastal way of life.

At night, enjoy a boat trip along Guayas River and admire the colors of the city. Accommodation (B)

Day 2: Guayaquil / Machalilla National Park

Visit to Centenario Park where you can see the iguanas up close, the Cathedral, the Government Palace and the Municipality.

We continue to Machalilla National Park. This place is the only reserve on the coast that has as a principle objective the preservation of “Isla de la Plata” and “Salango”, beaches such as “Los Frailes”, and a part of the tropical forest. Visit the archaeological museum of Salango where you will find remains that date back 4,500 years B.C. and that belong to a series of cultures that are perhaps the oldest in Ecuador: Valdivia, Chorrera, Machallila, and Manteña. You will find handcrafts and varied gastronomy. Accommodation. (B – L)

Day 3: Agua Blanca Archeological museum / Los Frailes

Visit the Archaeological Museum of Agua Blanca. The way of life in this community is very similar to that of their ancestors of the Manteña culture that inhabited this region from 800 to 1532 years after Christ. There is a small museum where you can find pre-Colombian ceramics and pictures of some of the inhabitants that apply the same technique of their ancestors.On the way we will see different species of birds, iguanas in the trees, an archaeological zone and an outlook with an impressive view.

After lunch we will visit Los Frailes beach.  Ideal place for swimming, diving, or simply resting. With white sand, a dry tropical forest, peace, a wonderful view, the beaches offer a paradise where you can replenish your energy. Accommodation. (B – L)

Day 4: Isla de La Plata

Visit Isla de la Plata, where you will see species of birds, fauna and vegetation very similar to the ones found on the Galapagos Islands. You can find species of sea birds such as pelicans, albatrosses, and frigates. In addition, the waters around the Isla de La Plata are a playground for more than eleven marine mammals, including a small colony of sea lions. Between June and October, you can see the Humpback Whales in a spectacular display for competing for the females’ attention. Also you will visit The Coral Reef around the Isla de La Plata; you can explore this amazing place with scuba or snorkel gear. There are a spectacular biodiversity of underwater marine life. Day 5: River Ayampe Rain forest / Manta

Visit the rain forest of River Ayampe. A transitory forest with a humid estuary and a small zone of bayous where you will have an opportunity to see the migratory birds. Continue to Montecristi, where Panama hats are made.

In the afternoon a little city tour by the city of Manta. Accommodation. (B – L)

Day 6 Manta/Return

Transfer to the airport.
